Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Mobilizes All Available Resources to Restore Flood Damage with Tireless Effort
Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Park Byung-gyu) is mobilizing all available resources to fully commit to the recovery efforts from the heavy rain damage.
In the Gwangsan-gu area, a total of 68 road potholes, 21 cases of potholes, and 3 cases of farmland flooding were reported as facility damage from the recent heavy rain (23rd-24th) with no casualties. The total accumulated facility damage since the 15th amounts to 127 cases.
Although a flood warning was issued at Jangnokgyo Bridge on the 24th, proactive measures by Gwangsan-gu, including the temporary evacuation of 158 residents from flood-prone areas, prevented any significant damage. The evacuated residents have safely returned home.
The district has been rapidly conducting restoration work focusing on areas closely related to citizens' daily lives, such as ground subsidence and road potholes, and as of 1 PM on the 25th, a total of 114 cases have been addressed. The remaining 13 cases, including soil runoff and river embankment damage, are planned to be restored promptly.
On the morning of the 25th, Oh Young-geol, Deputy Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, toured the damage sites including river embankment roads, agricultural drainage channels, and cut slopes to inspect the situation and urged swift recovery efforts.
Due to the weakened ground from accumulated rainfall, monitoring and intensive inspections of 43 landslide-prone areas will continue.
Deputy Mayor Oh stated, “Continuous monsoon rains have caused facilities closely related to citizens’ daily lives to be damaged or weakened. We will do our utmost to prevent secondary safety accidents through thorough inspections and prompt restoration of damaged aging buildings, river embankment roads, agricultural drainage channels, and landslide-prone areas.”
