He added, "All tasks must prioritize safety to prevent the recurrence of unfortunate accidents such as last year's Daejeon Yard SRT derailment, Mugunghwa-ho Yeongdeungpo Station derailment, and the fatal accident of a worker at Obong Station." He also made it clear that the safety level of KORAIL, a public institution, is directly linked to the national safety level.
He continued, "Fundamental improvements are essential for the railway safety system that has revealed problems," and said, "Please make securing public safety the 'top priority' and personally oversee it."
Minister Won also stated that it is time to focus on essential tasks such as railway undergrounding and the metropolitan area express railroad (GTX), rather than internal interests like subsidiary supervision and store leasing within the corporation.
He said, "We must correct the lax discipline throughout the organization, including recent internal personnel information leaks, and eradicate private interest cartels based on personal connections that reflect the government's national policy philosophy," adding, "The most important thing in personnel and organizational management is checks and balances."
