Samsung Laptop OLED Receives Electronics Industry's First 'Hazardous Substance Minimization' Certification
Lowest Level Recorded in Harmful Substance Verification
Global safety certification company SGS has recognized Samsung Display's OLED for laptops as having industry-leading safety in the evaluation of hazardous substance use in materials and components.
Samsung Display announced on the 24th that its 2023 model laptop OLED lineup of 14 types (ranging from 13-inch to 16-inch) recorded the lowest levels below the standard in the verification of over 300 hazardous substances, including heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants, and ecosystem non-degradable substances, and received the 'HSA (Hazardous Substances Assessed)' certification from SGS.
HSA is an eco-friendly product certification that analyzes product components to assess the extent of harmful substances used to the human body. It verifies over 300 hazardous substances, which is 30 times more than the existing hazardous substance evaluation 'RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances)'. In particular, it conducts destructive analysis of panels to comprehensively evaluate hazards that may occur throughout the product life cycle, from usage to recycling and disposal.

Jackson Wu, Deputy Director of SGS Hong Kong Office, explained, "As environmental regulations increase worldwide, the demand for hazardous substance safety is also rising," adding, "Samsung Display's laptop OLED, the first electronic product to receive HSA certification, can provide safety and reliability as an eco-friendly product through professional hazardous substance verification."
A Samsung Display official said, "We have consistently focused on developing materials and components that minimize hazardous substances along with the differentiated image quality characteristics of OLED," adding, "The HSA certification for all 2023 model laptop OLED products is a significant achievement in our eco-friendly technology development." He also added, "It will provide consumers with better choices."
