'2141 Nationwide Reports of Suspicious Yellow Packages... 68% Are False Alarms'
The National Police Agency announced that a total of 2,141 reports of suspicious mail received from overseas were filed nationwide by 5 a.m. on the 24th.
The police explained that they have collected and are investigating 679 of these cases, while the remaining 1,462 were confirmed to be false reports.
This figure increased by 83 from 2,058 cases as of 5 p.m. the previous day, with 34 additional collections and 49 more false reports.
By region, Gyeonggi had the highest number with 668 cases, followed by Seoul with 530, Gyeongbuk 101, Incheon 107, Chungnam 97, and Jeonbuk 85.
Reports also continued nationwide with Daegu at 78 cases, Chungbuk 73, Busan 72, Daejeon 71, Gwangju 59, Jeonnam 58, Ulsan 53, Gyeongnam 38, Gangwon 30, Jeju 12, and Sejong 9.
Related reports, which reached 987 in one day on the 21st, increased to 1,647 by 5 p.m. on the 22nd, 1,904 by 5 a.m. on the 23rd, and 2,058 by 5 p.m. on the 23rd, showing a gradual slowing trend.
Regarding this, a police official explained, "It appears that reports related to unclaimed mail that had been stored for a long time at post offices and other locations were concentrated initially, resulting in a high overall number as well as many false reports."

Additionally, the police urged that if anyone finds a parcel in a yellow or black envelope marked with 'CHUNGHWA POST' and the sender address 'P.O.Box 100561-003777, Taipei Taiwan,' they should not open it and immediately report it to the nearest police station or call 112.
