View original imageThe city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province is strengthening enforcement and publicity against illegal parking and charging interference in electric vehicle (EV) exclusive charging zones.
On the 24th, Suwon City announced that due to the continuous increase in illegal activities within EV exclusive charging zones, a fine of 100,000 KRW will be imposed if general vehicles park in exclusive charging zones, objects are placed there, or charging is obstructed by exceeding the EV parking time. Rapid charging zones allow parking for up to 1 hour, while slow charging zones allow parking for up to 14 hours.
Additionally, a fine of 200,000 KRW will be imposed if the markings or letters within the charging facility are deliberately damaged.
Suwon City is attaching guide stickers on parking spaces and producing informational videos that are promoted on media boards inside apartment elevators and on Suwon City's YouTube channel. Furthermore, illegal activities are being announced through banners and the Bus Information System (BIS).
As part of the 8th term of the elected mayor’s pledges, Suwon City is installing an additional 6,411 EV chargers to build infrastructure that allows EV users to charge anytime and anywhere.

A Suwon City official stated, "Enforcement is unavoidable in urban areas with limited parking to promote the spread of eco-friendly vehicles," adding, "We will actively and diversely promote the related regulations so that they can be established as soon as possible."
