'Report of Suspected Landslide on Umyunsan Mountain'... "No Abnormal Signs"
In the early morning of the 23rd, when a heavy rain advisory was issued in Seoul, the fire authorities received a report expressing concern about a potential landslide on Umyeonsan Mountain in Seocho-gu, prompting related authorities to urgently dispatch personnel to inspect the area.
At around 6:42 a.m. that day, Seoul city and fire authorities received a report stating, "Many trees behind the stone pagoda at the Umyeonsan Gwanmunsa are shaking significantly, raising concerns about a landslide."
The fire authorities, police, and Seocho-gu jointly and swiftly conducted an on-site inspection. As a result, no signs of a landslide or any abnormal indications that could cause a landslide were found, and the site control was lifted at around 8:06 a.m.
Seocho-gu notified the Korea Forest Research Institute of the report and plans to conduct a detailed reinspection of the location.
Umyeonsan Mountain suffered a landslide during the heavy rain that struck Seoul in July 2011, resulting in 16 fatalities and significant damage. Last year, heavy rain also caused a landslide, damaging wooden bridges and rest pavilions on hiking trails and toppling trees.
