Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee), in collaboration with Seoul National University, is recruiting students for the ‘15th Citizen Environmental University,’ a program aimed at nurturing future green leaders who will lead the realization of a sustainable carbon-neutral society.
Since its inception in 2009, the ‘Citizen Environmental University’ has been an environmental specialized education program where environmental experts, including professors from the Graduate School of Environmental Studies at Seoul National University, teach local residents various environmental topics in an easy-to-understand manner.
This year’s curriculum will cover diverse topics related to carbon neutrality, such as ▲the role of citizens in the climate crisis and carbon-neutral era ▲climate change and natural ecosystems ▲sustainable cities, and will be conducted vividly and in detail at the Graduate School of Environmental Studies at Seoul National University.
The education period runs from September 6 to November 29, with classes held every Wednesday from 7 PM to 9 PM for a total of 12 sessions.
Notably, the 6th session on October 14 will include a field training course where participants will tour the Seoul National University Gwanak Campus with a professor, observe natural ecosystems such as trees, soil, and water, and gain an in-depth understanding of the natural environment.
Additionally, students who complete at least 9 out of the 12 sessions will be awarded a certificate of completion jointly issued by the Mayor of Gwanak-gu and the Dean of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies at Seoul National University.
Applications open on July 19 and will close once the 70 spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The tuition fee is 60,000 KRW.
Applicants must be residents of Gwanak-gu, including those working in the district. Applications can be submitted online through the Gwanak-gu website (Participation/Reservation → Participation Application → Course/Event Reservation) or in person at the Green Environment Division of Gwanak-gu Office.
