Tesla Recalls 17,000 Vehicles in the US Due to Seatbelt Defect
On the 20th (local time), the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Tesla will recall a total of about 17,000 electric vehicles, including the Model S, X, and Y, in the United States.
According to NHTSA, Tesla is currently recalling some 2021-2023 Model S and Model X vehicles due to a seatbelt defect.
Tesla explained that the affected vehicles have front seatbelts that may come loose because they are not properly connected to the pretensioner mounting device. The number of vehicles being recalled for this issue is 15,869.
Tesla stated that at service centers, they will inspect the front seatbelts of the affected vehicles and, if necessary, repair or replace the parts free of charge.
Earlier, NHTSA received reports that in 2022-2023 Model X vehicles, when force is applied to the seatbelt, the pretensioner and belt connector detach from the seat frame. Subsequently, an investigation into the matter began in March.
Additionally, Tesla is recalling 1,337 units of 2023 Model S, X, and Y vehicles. Tesla explained that in these vehicles, the front camera may not be properly aligned, which could prevent the system from alerting the driver to safety-critical functions such as emergency braking, forward collision warning, and lane-keeping assistance.
