Unauthorized Design Change at Gwangju Sangmu Central Xi Leads GS Construction to Prosecution
The construction company and developer of the apartment complex on the former Honam University Ssangchon Campus site in Gwangju were referred to the prosecution on charges of unauthorized design changes during construction.
On the 20th, the Violent Crime Investigation Unit of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency announced that they had sent the construction company GS Construction, the developer of Sangmu Central Xi, and two site managers to prosecution without detention on charges of violating the Housing Act.
They were supposed to install pillar-shaped concrete piles into the ground and perform foundation work on the floor surface, but it was revealed that they constructed a thick floor slab (foundation plate) without concrete piles, leading to a complaint by Gwangju City.

The police judged that there was probable cause based on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's inquiry on whether the act violated the Housing Act, and the fact that Gwangju City's approval process included an additional clause stating that "if construction methods are changed, project approval must be obtained."
