BPA, Complete Replacement of Aging Lighting Fixtures at Busan Port
Busan Port Authority (BPA) recently completed a project to replace the aging lighting fixtures at major piers of Busan Port with LED lights.
Since 2020, BPA has been promoting the "Busan Port Lighting Tower LED Replacement Project" with terminal operators, investing approximately 10 billion KRW to improve the nighttime working environment for port workers and ensure safety.
In 2020, together with the operator of the Bukhang Gammam Pier, 504 lighting fixtures on the pier were replaced with LEDs. In 2021, a total of 2,579 lights at Bukhang Sinsundae, Singammam, Pier 7, and Gamcheon Central Pier were sequentially replaced.
Last year, in consultation with pier operators, BPA carried out a project to convert 1,158 lights at New Port Pier 1, Pier 3, Pier 4, and the multipurpose pier to LED, which was completed in June.
A terminal operator explained, “With the replacement of lighting fixtures within the port, the illuminance at the worksite has more than doubled, improving the nighttime working environment for workers and reducing the risk of accidents.”
Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, said, “The full replacement of aging lighting fixtures will help ensure safe cargo handling for on-site workers and is expected to contribute to realizing an eco-friendly port by reducing power consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.”
