Seogwipo Fire Station Conducts Training to Strengthen Ship Fire Response Capabilities

Seogwipo Fire Station of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province (Chief Park Gwang-chan) announced on the 20th that a joint fire drill to strengthen ship fire response capabilities was conducted at Seogwipo Port on the 19th.

The drill, conducted jointly with the fire department, coast guard, Fisheries Cooperative, and Fishing Vessel Owners' Association, mobilized 14 pieces of equipment and 69 personnel. It simulated a scenario where a fire broke out on a docked ship, conducting realistic training such as fire suppression using seawater and isolation between ships.

In particular, the training focused on fire suppression drills using special ship fire extinguishing equipment such as the Sella monitor nozzle and self-supporting water curtain, as well as the activation of the Seogwipo Fire Station rapid response team in preparation for a Level 1 response alert.

Chief Park Gwang-chan said, “Most ships are made of fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP), which is vulnerable to fire. When a fire occurs, it can quickly spread throughout the entire ship, raising the risk of a large-scale fire, so rapid response is crucial.”

He added, “Through this training, we will do our best to minimize ship fire damage by strengthening communication among related organizations and establishing an efficient fire suppression operation.”
