Kim Eun-kyung: "Nomination Rules Should Reflect Public Standards... 'The Innovation Meeting' Proposal Is Also One of the Suggestions"
"'A Cheerful Breakup' Doesn't Sound Cheerful"
Kim Eun-kyung, the chairperson of the Democratic Party Innovation Committee, which is leading the party's reform efforts, hinted at the possibility of changing the nomination rules, stating, "We will follow the standards that the people want." She also mentioned that the proposal from the non-incumbent pro-Myeong faction organization, 'The Democratic Party National Innovation Council,' is one of the suggestions under consideration.
On the 20th, on KBS's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strong Current Affairs,' Chairperson Kim said, "There are some guidelines given by senior figures in civil society. Although these guidelines are not very detailed, it would be good to consider them and look at the overall picture."
She added, "Nomination rules are very sensitive because they directly involve the interests of all members of the National Assembly," but emphasized, "At the beginning, we were told that the Innovation Committee would be given full authority. So, trusting and following that, ultimately, whatever the people want can become an agenda item."
Regarding the proposal from the non-incumbent pro-Myeong group 'The Democratic Party National Innovation Council' that half of the current members and more than 75% of those with three or more terms should be replaced, she said, "That proposal can be one of the suggestions," adding, "Many people say that some replacement is necessary. Furthermore, personnel renewal is extremely important. Since such comments are being made, I think it is appropriate to understand and approach this issue from that perspective."
In response to critical voices from the non-pro-Myeong faction, including Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Sang-min, she described them as "personal politics." She said, "There hasn't even been a single word about nomination rights, and the atmosphere is not like that. Rather, aren't there many other voices coming out?" and added, "On the contrary, I have seen it as being extremely free to the point of excess."
She continued, "Some voices emerge abruptly for personal political reasons. Of course, diversity exists, but some language crosses a certain line and incites division," adding, "While various stories fitting democratic tendencies are being told here and there, I believe that the Democratic Party is proceeding in a much more democratic manner than the People Power Party."

The Innovation Committee had previously issued a warning regarding Lee's remark about a 'pleasant breakup.' She said, "Such remarks do not sound pleasant from the public's perspective," adding, "If there were fundamental alternatives when such things were said, that would be different, but it seems like there is an intention to disparage specific individuals."
