"Thirst Won't Quench" British Man Drinks 10L Water Daily... 'Brain Tumor' Is the Culprit
Severe Thirst and Extreme Fatigue Reported
Brain Tumor Discovered Incidentally... Thirst Regulation Impaired
A man in the UK who drank 10 liters of water daily for two years due to severe thirst was found to have a brain tumor.
According to the UK Metro and other sources on the 18th (local time), Jonathan Plummer (41), who lives in Falmouth, Cornwall, southern England, drank up to 10 liters of water daily for two years due to thirst. Plummer said, "I even missed work for a few days because of the thirst," and "I felt extreme fatigue."
Plummer and medical staff suspected diabetes and conducted tests, but the results were negative. Despite this, he continued to suffer from thirst until he discovered a small tumor in his brain during a simple vision test.
Plummer was transferred to a nearby university hospital and underwent brain and cerebrovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. After detailed examinations, medical staff explained that the tumor appeared to have developed in his pituitary gland, causing these issues.
The pituitary gland regulates hormone secretion in the body, which in turn controls the functions of the thyroid, adrenal cortex, and other endocrine glands. The tumor damaged the part that controls thirst, causing him to remain thirsty even after drinking water.
However, the cause of Plummer's pituitary tumor has not been identified. He later underwent 30 sessions of radiation therapy and steroid treatment to remove the tumor. Due to steroid therapy, he gained weight and is currently managing his weight through running and swimming.
Previously a postman, he is now reported to be helping raise funds for a brain tumor research charity. A representative of the charity said, "Plummer's story shows that brain tumors are indiscriminate," adding, "They can occur in anyone of any age."

Meanwhile, pituitary tumors are classified into functional pituitary tumors and non-functional pituitary tumors. Symptoms of functional pituitary tumors vary depending on the type of hormone involved. In the case of non-functional pituitary tumors, the tumor gradually grows and presses on the optic nerve, causing visual field defects or decreased vision.
