Ministry of the Interior and Safety Dispatches Emergency Response Support Teams to 17 Cities and Provinces Nationwide
Local Governments and Heavy Rain Response
On the 19th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that it has organized an Emergency Response Support Team (at the director-general level) for local governments and dispatched them to 17 cities and provinces nationwide to minimize additional casualties caused by the continuous heavy rains that began on the 12th.
On the 15th, the Ministry had previously dispatched a Special Support Team (at the director-general level) to four cities and provinces (Chungbuk, Chungnam, Jeonbuk, Gyeongbuk) to strengthen the flood and typhoon response and damage recovery capabilities of local government disaster and safety countermeasure headquarters. The Emergency Response Support Teams being dispatched this time are an expansion of the previously dispatched Special Support Teams to all cities and provinces nationwide, aiming for a full-scale joint response by the government and local governments to the heavy rains.
The Emergency Response Support Teams for each city and province consist of a team leader (director-general level) and two groups (at the manager level). The team leader will support situation management at the city/province disaster and safety countermeasure headquarters, while the two groups will carry out tasks such as monitoring the measures taken by city/county/district authorities and conducting on-site inspections. Additionally, they plan to identify necessary support and suggestions to ensure local governments can respond smoothly to the heavy rains and provide maximum cooperation.
