Due to the record-breaking heavy rain in Daegu, some soil from Waryongsan Mountain was washed away, causing partial damage to the facilities at Gyeongwon High School located in Yongsan-dong, Dalseo-gu, Daegu.
At around 3:24 PM on the 18th, at Kyungwon High School located in Yongsan-dong, Dalseo-gu, Daegu, the locker room inside the gymnasium was damaged due to soil erosion from Waryongsan near the school.

According to the Daegu Fire Headquarters and Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education on the 18th, a report was received at around 3:24 PM that the retaining wall of Gyeongwon High School had collapsed due to soil washed down from nearby Waryongsan Mountain, damaging part of the building. The affected buildings included the gymnasium restroom, cafeteria, and part of the athletic dormitory. Subsequently, at around 3:40 PM, all students were sent home.
Following the incident, the fire authorities deployed 40 personnel and 11 pieces of equipment to the site.
Fortunately, there were no casualties among students and staff.
Gyeongwon High School was scheduled to start its vacation on the 19th, but adjusted the academic schedule to skip the closing ceremony and begin summer vacation immediately.
The Metropolitan Office of Education is monitoring the situation, as the recent heavy rain in Daegu weakened the ground of Waryongsan Mountain, causing soil to slide down. They have restricted surrounding traffic to prepare for any additional accidents.

Meanwhile, as of 9 AM on the same day, the Ministry of Education announced that 63 schools (institutions) across 12 metropolitan and provincial offices of education nationwide suffered facility damage due to the heavy rain.
Among these 63 schools, 17 are located in the Chungnam region, experiencing damages such as soil erosion, fallen trees, sinkholes in flower beds, cracks in building exterior walls, and flooding in playgrounds, dormitories, and elevators.
Other affected schools include 12 in Jeonbuk, 9 in Chungbuk, 8 in Gyeongbuk, 6 in Sejong, 3 each in Seoul and Gyeongnam, 2 in Daejeon, and 1 each in Incheon, Gwangju, Gangwon, and Jeonnam.
The Ministry of Education stated that they are conducting prompt on-site inspections together with the relevant metropolitan and provincial offices of education and the Korea Educational Facilities Safety Institute for the schools that suffered facility damage.
