Gwangju Seo-gu Embarks on Tourism Resource Development Reflecting Regional Characteristics with 'Stories'

Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) is embarking on turning the urban regeneration project sites into tourist attractions by embedding stories reflecting the unique characteristics of each district.

Seo-gu announced on the 18th that it held a kickoff meeting for the 'Urban Regeneration Project Storytelling Path Discovery Service.'

The meeting, held the previous day under the chairmanship of Mayor Kim Ikang, was attended by heads of related departments and neighborhood chiefs, where the project direction and plans were shared and various opinions were gathered.

The storytelling path discovery service will be carried out over five months starting with the kickoff meeting, including ▲development of stories for urban regeneration project sites ▲development of storytelling path content based on the discovered stories and suggestions for utilization plans ▲and presentation of concrete commercialization plans through storytelling across various fields.

Through this service, Seo-gu plans to discover storytelling paths for each district by utilizing the historical and cultural assets and major hub facilities within the urban regeneration project sites developed so far, and to create paths with distinctive cultural content that attract tourists.

The targeted urban regeneration project sites are Yangdong, developed through the Ocheon Village Regeneration Project; Yang 3-dong, developed through the Saetteul Village Project; and Nongsung 1-dong, developed as the Nongsung community filled with the scent of cherry blossoms and the creative Nongsunggol where culture and arts are thriving.

By November this year, Seo-gu plans to discover storytelling paths for each district within the urban regeneration project sites through the final service results and promote related projects.

Mayor Kim Ikang of Seo-gu said, “We will create paths with historical and cultural colors made through urban regeneration projects, making roads with stories unique to Seo-gu.”
