Gwangju Nam-gu Conducts Reading Culture Program at Local Children's Centers
Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is partnering with two local community child centers to conduct a visiting reading culture program.
According to Nam-gu on the 18th, the Cultural Information Library will operate the "Reading Books with the Library and Me" program every Monday from this month until September to provide children using the community child centers with opportunities to develop reading habits and become familiar with books through the public interest activities of public libraries.
This program will be held at two community child centers, Happy Community Child Center and Yangji Community Child Center, which expressed their intention to participate, and a total of 10 sessions with various detailed programs will be conducted until September 18.
First, elementary school students attending Happy Community Child Center will engage in activities to enhance imagination and literacy by reading books related to food, including appetizers, as well as books about family, sculptures, and the environment, together with expert instructor Choi Jin-ah.
They will also gain diverse experiences learning about lines and three-dimensional forms through making picture books.
Elementary school students in grades 1 to 3 at Yangji Community Child Center will participate in learning activities that develop thinking skills through books.
After reading, they will actively engage in reading activities on various topics such as personal stories, reflection and prejudice, the butterfly effect, apology and forgiveness, noblesse oblige, and their own vision.

A Nam-gu official stated, "Through operating reading programs linked with local child care facilities, we will strengthen the role of public libraries within the community and do our best to make the library an open library integrated into the daily lives of local residents."
