E1 is investing 10 million Canadian dollars (CAD), approximately 9.5 billion KRW, for initial project development and securing about 1 million tons of ammonia annually. The goal is to import it domestically by 2028.
Clean ammonia is gaining attention as an eco-friendly and sustainable fuel that minimizes carbon emissions and can be used directly, while also serving as a carrier for storing and transporting hydrogen. The clean ammonia and hydrogen imported into Korea are expected to play a crucial role in Korea's carbon neutrality and hydrogen economy activation by being utilized in coal-fired and LNG power generation co-firing, transportation, and industrial sectors.
Chairman Gu Jayong stated, "Based on over 40 years of accumulated global LPG business expertise, we aim to actively promote the import of overseas clean hydrogen, supply chain establishment, and distribution business," adding, "We expect this to play an important role in supporting the government's Clean Hydrogen Power Supply Obligation (CHPS) system, which is about to be implemented."
