AI Recognizes Clothing Colors in CCTV... SKT Launches Next-Generation Video Surveillance Solution
SK Telecom announced on the 18th that it will launch an AI-based next-generation intelligent video surveillance solution in collaboration with Innodep, a company specializing in CCTV control platforms.
The AI-based next-generation intelligent video surveillance solution analyzes footage captured by general CCTV using Vision AI (video recognition AI) technology on a server and notifies operators in case of abnormal situations. It can be applied to most currently operating general CCTVs.

The newly launched solution was developed by combining Innodep’s integrated CCTV control platform, which it has built and operates, with SKT’s independently developed next-generation Vision AI technology. The main detection targets are people, vehicles, and motorcycles. Based on improved video analysis accuracy compared to existing solutions, the accident detection function has been significantly enhanced.
The attribute classification function for people, which was previously provided in a limited way, has been greatly strengthened to analyze detailed forms such as gender, age, upper and lower clothing, long sleeves and short sleeves, as well as color information classified into 13 types. It can identify hair length (long or short hair) and whether a hat is worn, enabling future applications in various fields such as finding missing children, elderly dementia patients, and searching for crime suspects. It can accurately analyze not only medium and large vehicles such as passenger cars, trucks, and buses but also small objects like bicycles and motorcycles, maximizing control efficiency for various incidents and accidents.
This solution features a significant improvement in operational reliability compared to existing solutions by applying SKT’s large-scale AI training data accumulated over a long period and its independently developed Vision AI lightweight and optimization technology.
Recently, the installation of CCTV has surged in both private sectors (smart factories, smart logistics centers, etc.) and public sectors (crime prevention, traffic, disaster response, etc.) to enhance safety and security. However, most operators monitor many CCTV screens individually, frequently missing incidents. There is a high demand for services that automatically detect and notify the occurrence of incidents. This solution greatly improves monitoring efficiency through AI technology and is expected to contribute significantly to improving public safety and strengthening security at various facilities in the future.
The two companies plan to focus first on supplying customized AI CCTV solutions for the public sector and local governments, and after securing successful public sector operation cases, they intend to expand into the private market, including large corporations and factories. With the launch of the solution as a milestone, the two companies are discussing entry into various rapidly growing Vision AI markets as well as the video surveillance security field, and plan to continuously expand successful collaboration models applying advanced AI technology.
Choi Nak-hoon, Head of SKT Enterprise AI, said, “SKT’s Vision AI technology will act as a core technology for AI transformation in various fields such as urban safety, industry, medical care, and logistics,” adding, “Through the commercialization of the AI-based next-generation video surveillance solution, we will advance into public safety, disaster, and industrial facility real-time security services to contribute to creating a safer and more comfortable society.”
