On the afternoon of the 17th, the Chungbuk Provincial Police Agency announced that they conducted a first joint inspection of the flooded vehicles in the underpass and the Miho River embankment, which was identified as the cause of the accident.
The police explained, "This is a preliminary investigation to examine factors such as the height and width of the embankment," adding, "We will also look into the circumstances and reasons why traffic control was not implemented at the underpass." Earlier, the Chungbuk Provincial Police Agency formed a dedicated investigation team consisting of 88 investigators, led by the head of the investigation division as the chief.
