The city has strengthened surveillance and pre-inspection activities for about 631 areas vulnerable to human casualties and disasters, including steep slopes, landslide-prone areas, and flood zones, and promptly responded on-site by town and village to damages that could occur when a heavy rain warning is issued.
By sharing weather information within Namwon City through disaster safety text messages and village broadcasts, citizens were quickly informed on how to act and respond in the current situation.
In addition, the city established a close communication system with cooperating departments and 23 towns and villages to ensure immediate damage reporting and response in case of on-site damage.
Furthermore, the city conducted pre-control of risk areas such as riverside walking trails, Sewolgyo Bridge, and Yocheon bicycle paths, and proactively prepared for heavy rain damage through additional surveillance activities according to the Seomjingang Dam sluice gate discharge plan.
Moreover, the city carefully checked for damage or loss of water play safety facilities at three water play management sites in Sannae-myeon during heavy rain, and provided guidance on national action guidelines for heavy rain and lightning preparedness through disaster texts and disaster video electronic display boards targeting community leaders and vulnerable groups.
Especially on the 16th, Mayor Choi Kyung-sik conducted pre-surveillance by visiting the Seojeon drainage pump station and Geumgokgyo Gwiseok drainage pump station, and later visited flood-prone areas around Noam-dong, ordering faster restoration.
Mayor Choi Kyung-sik said, “When it comes to disaster response, thorough preparation is necessary even if it seems excessive or overdone. Since prolonged heavy rain continues, please focus all efforts on preventing additional damage such as landslides and isolation.”
He added, “Although there has been much hard work on emergency duty and recovery since last week to respond to heavy rain, please do not let your guard down until the end and strive to minimize damage.”
Meanwhile, the Namwon Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters reported that from the 14th to the 16th, the highest rainfall area in Namwon City was Deokgwa-myeon with 158 mm, and the average rainfall in the city center was 92 mm.
