Gwangju Seo-gu Urges High-Risk Groups to Get Vaccinated Against Typhoid and Other Diseases

Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) has urged the need for vaccinations for high-risk groups due to increased outdoor activities and overseas travel during the summer vacation season.

On the 17th, Seo-gu announced that it is providing free vaccinations to residents aged 5 and older registered in Seo-gu who are traveling to typhoid fever endemic areas (Southeast Asia, Central and South America, India, etc.).

Typhoid fever is an illness caused by contaminated water or food, resulting in fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and other symptoms. To apply for vaccination, individuals should inquire about the vaccine availability at the public health center and visit the Seo-gu Public Health Center vaccination room with their ID and flight ticket (including mobile tickets).

Seo-gu is also administering vaccinations against hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, a representative rodent-borne infectious disease.

The vaccination targets agricultural workers and soldiers who mainly work in grass fields, as well as outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy camping, fishing, and similar activities. Residents registered in Seo-gu can receive two doses one month apart and a third dose 12 months later free of charge.

Seo-gu recommends additional COVID-19 bivalent vaccine doses for the elderly, immunocompromised individuals, and others.

COVID-19 vaccinations can be reserved in advance through the COVID-19 vaccination reservation website or by contacting the Seo-gu Public Health Center vaccination room.

A Seo-gu Public Health Center official stated, “Prevention is the priority for infectious diseases, and vaccination is important. We ask residents planning outdoor activities or overseas travel during the summer or those exposed to risk factors to get vaccinated in advance.”
