Seocho-gu has prepared an opportunity for youths interested in architecture to engage in a ‘wise’ architectural exploration life during the summer vacation.
Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will operate the ‘Seoripul Architecture School’ from the 29th of this month to August 12th for local youths dreaming of becoming future architects. It is recruiting 20 middle and high school students in the area until the 21st.
The ‘Seoripul Architecture School,’ launched for the first time this year, is a program prepared by the district to increase youths’ interest in architecture and provide opportunities for career exploration.
This program combines field trips and theoretical education through talent donation by the Seocho-gu Architects Association. Classes will be held every Saturday for a total of 3 sessions in the order of ▲Architect office tours ▲Visits to outstanding buildings ▲Construction site inspections.
The first session involves visiting two architect offices located in the area, G.A. Architect Office and Now Dongin Architect Office, to experience the work and working environment of architects and have a Q&A session. The second session includes visits to outstanding buildings such as the Seocho-gu Bangbae Forest Environmental Library, which opened last month, and Sebitseom in Banpo Hangang Park, providing time to understand various architectural forms and share opinions. In the final third session, participants will visit an actual construction site to receive explanations about the construction process. On this day, architects will also provide theoretical explanations about the construction stages tailored to the youths’ level of understanding.
Lee In-hwa, an architect from Dowon Architect Office participating as an operator in this program, said, “I hope this will be a special time for youths dreaming of becoming architects to gain diverse experiences such as design and construction processes of buildings, and I will do my best to help them understand the work of architects.”
Applications can be submitted by filling out the application form posted on the Seocho-gu Office website and sending it via email. The course is free of charge. For more details, please contact the Architecture Division of Seocho-gu Office.
Going forward, the district plans to promote this ‘Seoripul Architecture School’ as a community-linked curriculum under the high school credit system in cooperation with the Gangnam-Seocho Office of Education starting next year, based on satisfaction surveys after this operation.
