In this unprecedented era, business leaders from across the country gathered in Jeju to explore what the Korean economy and our companies must do. The best speakers from the public, private, and academic sectors, including the Ministers of Economy, Environment, and Justice, the Governor of the Bank of Korea, the President of KAIST, and top CEOs, delivered lectures.
The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) opened the 46th Jeju Forum on the 12th at the Haevichi Hotel & Resort in Jeju. Held over three nights and four days from the 12th to the 15th, the KCCI Jeju Forum has established itself as the first and largest summer forum in the economic sector since its inception in 1974.
This forum was attended by about 550 businesspeople from large, medium, and small enterprises nationwide, including KCCI Chairman Chey Tae-won, Busan Chamber of Commerce Chairman Jang In-hwa, Daegu Chamber Chairman Lee Jae-ha, Incheon Chamber Chairman Shim Jae-sun, Daejeon Chamber Chairman Jeong Tae-hee, Ulsan Chamber Chairman Lee Yoon-chul, as well as SK Communication Committee Chairman Lee Hyung-hee, DI Dongil CEO Son Jae-sun, Samchully CEO Lee Chan-ui, STX Engine CEO Lee Sang-soo, Handok CEO Baek Jin-gi, Il Sung Pharmaceutical CEO Yoon Seok-geun, Sangsin Brake CEO Park Se-jong, Geumbokju CEO Kim Il-hwan, and Daesung Energy CEO Yoon Hong-sik.
In his opening remarks, Chairman Chey Tae-won said, "As the global market fragments into blocks due to US-China conflicts and security issues, alternative markets are needed." He added, "Now, we must build relationships and diversify trade not only with the US and China but also with smaller markets to reduce risks. Hosting the Busan Expo is important for 'building relationships' with countries worldwide." He continued, "Our people know how our country has developed through hosting the Olympics and the World Cup," emphasizing, "Hosting the Busan Expo is important not only for me personally but also for businesses and the nation. Your support is needed."
Three-night, four-day economic forum begins... Deputy Prime Minister Choo Kyung-ho delivers opening lecture
The first lecture was delivered by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho. Through his lecture on 'Government's Economic Policy Direction,' he diagnosed the current situation of the Korean economy and introduced the economic policy direction for the second half of the year aimed at a swift economic rebound and growth path.
Policies and insights on paradigm shifts surrounding our companies and response measures were also presented. On the second day (the 13th), Minister of Environment Han Hwa-jin introduced the 'Government's Environmental Policy Direction' to create opportunities for carbon neutrality and green growth amid the rapidly progressing climate crisis and pressure to reduce greenhouse gases. KAIST President Lee Kwang-hyung and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Professor Kim Sung-hoon shared insights on the enormous impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on society and the challenges companies must prepare for.
On the third day of the forum (the 14th), Bank of Korea Governor Lee Chang-yong discussed global economic trends and corporate response strategies, while Seoul National University Professor Emeritus Kim Tae-yoo spoke about Korea's national strategy to become a winner amid the great shift in global economic hegemony.

View original imageAdditionally, the newly introduced 'Management Talk Show' at this Jeju Forum features KCCI Chairman Chey Tae-won himself. Together with Seoul National University Professor Song Jae-yong (moderator), AI semiconductor startup Rebelion CEO Park Sung-hyun, and corporate culture expert and Daehaknaeil CEO Kim Young-hoon, they discuss 'How our companies should prepare for the future in this era of great transformation.'
On the final day (the 15th), Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon gave a lecture on 'Legal Administration Driving Economic Growth and the Role of Companies.' Following this, Kim Chang-soo, Chairman of F&F, known as the 'Midas touch' of the fashion industry who quickly grasps changes in the times and leads the 'globalization of K-fashion,' shared his story of successful management.
During the Jeju Forum, the KCCI ERT (Entrepreneurship Round Table) and Jeju Chamber of Commerce jointly held a 'Marine Environment Cleanup' event. About 50 participants, including KCCI Senior Vice Chairman Woo Tae-hee, Jeju Chamber Chairman Yang Moon-seok, member companies such as Jeju Bank, and Jeju Forum attendees, collected beach litter at Pyoseon Beach, engaging in plogging activities to reflect on the importance of the environment.

KCCI Senior Vice Chairman Woo Tae-hee said, "This year's KCCI Jeju Forum was prepared with lectures by top speakers from various fields and diverse healing programs so that businesspeople can find solutions to respond to the rapidly changing economic environment." He added, "I hope the Jeju Forum will be an opportunity for CEOs to gain insights and recharge." The Jeju Forum is known as a time for 'Eureka moments,' where participants can rest and gain sparkling ideas.
