First Samsung OLED TV with LGD Panel Launches Sales in the US
The Price of the Korean Release May Be Higher Than in the US
Samsung Electronics has officially confirmed that it will equip the 83-inch OLED TV, scheduled for sale in the domestic market in July-August, with panels made by LG Display, and it has been confirmed that the product was first launched in the United States.
On the 12th, Samsung Electronics announced through its newsroom that it has started selling the 83-inch OLED 4K TV (model name 83S90C) in the U.S. The 83-inch OLED panel is not produced by Samsung Display but is exclusively released by LG Display under the name WOLED. This is the first OLED TV collaboration between Samsung Electronics and LG Display.
The price set by Samsung Electronics’ U.S. subsidiary for the 83-inch OLED 4K TV is $5,399.99. Converted to Korean won based on Naver’s exchange rate, it amounts to 6,967,000 KRW. With the addition of the 83-inch model to the previously introduced 55-, 65-, and 77-inch models, Samsung Electronics’ OLED TV lineup has expanded to a total of four models.
Samsung Electronics’ U.S. subsidiary stated, "Large screen sizes are the fastest-growing segment in the TV industry," adding, "Through the new 83-inch OLED 4K TV model, we aim to allow consumers to experience the benefits of Samsung’s OLED TVs on a larger screen."
Samsung Electronics will soon begin selling the 83-inch OLED 4K TV in the domestic market as well. The 83-inch OLED 4K TV was newly added to the in-store sales catalog for the July-August issue, alongside the existing six models of 55-, 65-, and 77-inch OLED TVs. Although the exact release date has not been finalized, it is expected that consumers will be able to purchase it as early as July or by August at the latest. However, considering that the domestic price for the same TV products has traditionally been higher than in the U.S., the domestic price for the 83-inch OLED TV is likely to be set slightly higher than the U.S. price.
Industry insiders view Samsung Electronics’ first use of LG Display panels in its OLED TVs as a signal that LG Display will supply additional panel quantities due to the expanding OLED TV market. Although Samsung Display produces 55-, 65-, and 77-inch OLED panels, the volume is limited, so depending on the future expansion of Samsung Electronics’ OLED TV sales, it is highly likely that LG Display will expand the range of models it supplies.
Currently, Samsung Display, which has raised OLED panel yield rates to around 90%, is known to produce about 1.5 million panels annually. Compared to LG Display’s large OLED panel production capacity of up to 10 million units per year, this is significantly lower.
