President Yoon Suk-yeol strongly criticized North Korea's long-range ballistic missile launch on the 12th (local time), stating, "North Korea must clearly understand that its illegal nuclear missile development will face even stronger responses and sanctions from the international community."

President Yoon particularly emphasized, "There will be consequences for North Korea's illegal actions," and urged, "We must further expand security cooperation among South Korea, the United States, and Japan, including real-time missile warning information sharing and trilateral maritime missile defense exercises."
He continued, "Our military maintains a firm South Korea-U.S. combined defense posture capable of deterring and responding to any threats from North Korea," and instructed, "Through the upcoming South Korea-U.S. Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG) meeting scheduled for the 18th, we must further strengthen the extended deterrence implementation capability in accordance with the Washington Declaration."
NSC Standing Committee members also pointed out, "The ongoing North Korean long-range ballistic missile launches constitute a serious violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions and a grave provocation threatening peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and the international community," adding, "The more the Kim Jong-un regime clings to reckless nuclear adventurism while ignoring the collapse of people's livelihoods, the bleaker the future of the North Korean regime will become."

They further stated, "This North Korean provocation demonstrates the importance of solidarity among value-sharing countries," emphasizing plans to strengthen military intelligence sharing and cyber security cooperation with NATO, as well as expand cooperation with Indo-Pacific countries, including the Asia-Pacific Four (AP4: South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand) partners.
President Yoon particularly warned, "North Korea's provocation occurred during the NATO summit, where global security cooperation is discussed, and I will urge the international community to show strong unity at the NATO meeting and other related occasions today."
At the emergency NSC Standing Committee meeting, Cho Tae-yong, Director of the National Security Office, and Kim Tae-hyo, First Deputy Director of the NSC Secretariat, attended from Lithuania. Minister of Unification Kwon Young-se, Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup, Director of the National Intelligence Service Kim Kyu-hyun, Chief Presidential Secretary Kim Dae-gi, Second Deputy Director of the National Security Office Lim Jong-deuk, and First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jang Ho-jin were present at the National Crisis Management Center.

According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, North Korea launched one ballistic missile from Pyongyang toward the East Sea around 10 a.m. that day. The missile was launched at a high angle, flew approximately 1,000 km, and landed in the East Sea. This North Korean ballistic missile launch came 27 days after the previous launch, which was fired in response to the South Korea-U.S. combined joint firepower annihilation exercise on the 15th of last month.
