The man is accused of approaching young women by promising modeling jobs and then sexually assaulting them. He disguised himself as a woman and pretended to be an entertainment industry worker, roaming weekend shopping malls to approach women. Under the pretense of auditions, he lured them to hotels or apartments and committed the crimes.
Thai police searched Bangkok shopping malls for two weeks to capture him. A plainclothes female officer pretended to be seeking entertainment industry work, made contact with him, and succeeded in arresting him. Police stated that the day before his arrest, he attempted to sexually assault a woman working at a music school using the same method but failed.
Police investigations revealed that the man has 14 prior convictions for similar offenses. He served a prison sentence for sexual assault in 2005 and was released in May last year, but continued committing the same crimes afterward. Police estimate that the number of victims is at least 100. Among them are government officials, company executives, and graduate students.
Police reported that he frequently changed jobs every 1 to 5 months, working as a construction laborer, truck driver, factory worker, security guard, and curtain installer, wandering around Bangkok. After meeting an entertainment industry worker in 2009, he began impersonating a model agent.
Meanwhile, in Thailand, between 2013 and 2020, out of 16,413 sex offenders released from prison, 4,848 committed crimes again.
In response, the Thai parliament passed a bill in February last year with 145 votes in favor and 2 abstentions, allowing habitual sex offenders to receive reduced sentences if they voluntarily choose chemical castration.
