Starting from the 10th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it has launched the "Universal Support for Menstrual Products for Female Adolescents," which provides 13,000 KRW per month per person to support the purchase of menstrual products to ensure the health rights of female adolescents.
Earlier in the first half of this year, Gyeonggi Province, together with 21 cities and counties in the province, supported the purchase costs for about 134,000 female adolescents aged 11 to 18.
The second half project will be carried out in 22 cities and counties, targeting female adolescents born between 2005 and 2012.
The support funds will be provided as local currency based on the female adolescent’s resident registration address. The funds can be used until December 31 of this year. The issued local currency can only be used to purchase menstrual products. The places of use are convenience stores (CU, GS25, 7-Eleven, Emart24) in the city or county of the registered address.
Gyeonggi Province will accept online applications for the second half until August 18. In 20 cities and counties, applicants can apply as before by accessing the local currency company’s website via a mobile app and completing mobile phone identity verification. Female adolescents who received support in the first half do not need to reapply if there has been no change in their resident registration address.
However, new applicants in Gwangju City and Hwaseong City will pilot the introduction of the "Gyeonggi Civil Service 24" system starting this second half. Therefore, applications must be submitted through Gyeonggi Civil Service 24 (https://gg24.gg.go.kr).
Female adolescents who have difficulty applying online can also apply in person at the administrative welfare centers of their resident town, township, or neighborhood until November 17 this year.
The adolescent herself, her guardian, or primary caregiver can apply for the support funds, but applicants who are already receiving support under the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s programs for basic livelihood security recipients, legally designated lower-income groups, or single-parent family households cannot receive duplicate support. If the support funds are not used by December 31, they will not be carried over and will automatically expire.
