District Mayor Jeon Seong-su: “We will continue to strive to establish a mature companion culture and create a happy Seocho where people and animals live together”
Seocho-gu (District Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will operate a ‘Companion Dog Care Shelter’ to ease the burden of care for companion dogs of owners who leave their homes for summer vacations.
The operation period is from the 28th of this month to August 17th, and the ‘Companion Dog Care Shelter’ has been set up inside the Seocho Animal Love Center.
Experienced professional caregivers (pet sitters) are stationed here so residents can entrust their companion dogs with peace of mind. They monitor the dogs’ condition through patrols and CCTV, manage feeding and waste, and in case of emergencies such as illness or injury, connect them to a 24-hour operating animal hospital.
Additionally, a walking program will be provided, allowing companion dogs to safely run and play freely at the ‘Maeheon Citizens’ Forest Companion Dog Playground’ which opened last month.
Applicants can visit the Seocho Animal Love Center on a first-come, first-served basis starting from the 10th. Eligible applicants are owners of small to medium-sized companion dogs over 5 months old registered in the district, whose dogs have no contagious diseases, illnesses, pregnancy, or heat cycles. The care fee is a minimum cost of 5,000 KRW for cleaning and disinfection.
Priority for application is given in the order of ▲Seocho residents who have adopted abandoned dogs (1st priority) ▲low-income households (2nd priority) ▲families who adopted from Seocho Animal Love Center and Seocho residents (3rd priority).
The district supports residents who adopt abandoned animals with the nation’s largest adoption subsidy of 500,000 KRW. It also operates services such as ▲funeral cost support for companion animals killed by roadkill and returned to their owners ▲‘Seoripul Rainbow Group’ which helps overcome pet loss through psychological counseling ▲life-cycle tailored education programs including ‘Puppy Class’ for socialization and etiquette under 12 months old, and ‘Halmeong Academy’ specialized education for senior dogs over 7 years old.
