Appointment of Jang Won-sam, Former Secretary General of Northeast Asian History Foundation, as KOICA President
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 7th that Jang Won-sam, former Secretary General of the Northeast Asian History Foundation, has been appointed as the new President of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

President Jang graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in law and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1984. He has held various positions including Director of Personnel Planning, Director of Northeast Asia Affairs, Minister-Counselor at the Embassy in China, and Ambassador to Sri Lanka. He retired from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in December 2021 and served as Secretary General of the Northeast Asian History Foundation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "President Jang has accumulated over 40 years of diverse experience in diplomacy and international exchange, and based on this, he is expected to actively realize KOICA's vision of becoming a global pivotal country through the promotion of advanced country-type development cooperation."

The KOICA President is selected through a process including public recruitment and a screening by the executive recommendation committee, and after the term expires, reappointment is possible on a yearly basis. Former President Son Hyuk-sang resigned last December with 10 months remaining in his term.
