The first special lecture presenting the direction for Gwangju's development amid a data-centered social crisis was held successfully.
According to the Gwangju Metropolitan Council on the 6th, this special lecture planned by Assemblyman Kang Su-hoon took place at Mudeung Hall in Gwangju City Hall, with about 100 participants including public officials and citizens.
Hosted by the Civic Tech Network, the lecture featured Professor Lee Kwang-seok of Seoul National University of Science and Technology, author of "Digital Gluttony Society," and Kim Hee-dae, Head of the Technology Infrastructure Support Division at Daegu Technopark, who has long researched "Smart Cities."
The Civic Tech Network is a voluntary council formed to promote innovation in the public sector and solve urban problems by leveraging the power of citizens and technological advancement.
It includes the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, Gwangju Regional Problem-Solving Platform, Gwangju Urban Corporation, Gwangju Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation, Gwangju Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency, Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Project Group, Gwangju Technopark, Gwangju Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, and Gwangju Metropolitan Social Service Agency.
In the lecture, Professor Lee Kwang-seok spoke on the theme "The Crisis of the Data Society, Civic Tech is the Answer," stating, "The overflowing digital technology is equated with innovation, but the true solution to the current society where digital is running rampant is to prioritize citizen-led technological alternatives." He added, "I hope that Gwangju will realize the foundation and base to socially design citizen-led digital democratic imagination, such as the movement to protect native seeds and low-cost, high-efficiency house building."
Director Kim Hee-dae gave a lecture titled "Transforming Cities through Smart City Living Labs."
Director Kim argued, "Cities must meet citizens' demands with limited resources," and emphasized, "Gwangju must place citizens at the center and apply ICT technology in design, construction, and urban infrastructure operation to become a smart, warm, and sustainable leading city."
