Gwangju Nam-gu, A Story Behind Customized Integrated Care Services for People in Their 70s
"Because my body is uncomfortable and it's hard to go outside, I only inquired about disability registration over the phone, but they came all the way to my house and took care of everything from replacing the front door to meals, which brought me to tears. Thank you."
A story of a senior in her 70s living alone in Jinwol-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, who was moved to tears by the customized integrated care service provided by the Dong Administrative Welfare Center and the district office, has recently come to light.
According to Nam-gu on the 6th, Grandma Kim called the Jinwol-dong Administrative Welfare Center last month to resolve questions related to the disability registration procedure.
A social welfare officer working at the Administrative Welfare Center, upon hearing that Grandma Kim had difficulty visiting the center due to mobility issues from back surgery, immediately visited her residence, helped complete the disability registration documents, and checked on her condition.
Kim, a basic livelihood security recipient, was in a very serious situation. She could barely move her body, making it nearly impossible to prepare meals alone. Living alone and in poor health, her life safety was at risk.
Additionally, the old and worn front door was misaligned, making it very difficult to open and close.
The social welfare officer at the Dong Administrative Welfare Center judged Grandma Kim’s situation as a crisis family and requested case management from the center’s customized welfare team. The customized welfare team decided to assist her by linking with the Happy Welfare 7979 Center operated by the district office.
Through the customized integrated care one-stop support, Kim is receiving side dishes provided by the Jinwol-dong Community Security Council, 20 kg of rice sponsored by the Community Chest of Korea, and housekeeping support services for seniors.
Also, with the help of the 7979 Center volunteer group who donated their talents and the Jinwol-dong Community Security Council, she is spending a happy summer in a home where the front door, door lock, insect screen for the front door, and bathroom safety bars have all been newly replaced.
