Choi Kyung-sik, Mayor of Namwon, Visits National Assembly to Secure State Budget 'All-Out Effort'

Choi Kyung-sik, former mayor of Namwon City, Jeonbuk, is making every effort to secure national budget funds.

According to the city on the 5th, Mayor Choi Kyung-sik visited the National Assembly, meeting with Seo Sam-seok, chairman of the Budget and Accounts Committee, and is continuing all-out activities to secure national budget and resolve major pending projects.

On this day, Mayor Choi visited members of the National Assembly belonging to the Budget and Accounts Special Committee, the Environment and Labor Committee, and the Health and Welfare Committee to request support for securing national budget and resolving pending projects.

Mayor Choi’s visit to the National Assembly comes amid the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s ongoing review of next year’s national budget proposal submitted by various government ministries, and following the government’s announcement to strengthen its fiscal austerity policy. The visit aims to maximize the reflection of key projects of the 8th elected city administration in next year’s national budget and to request support for resolving pending projects.

In particular, during the meeting with Seo Sam-seok, chairman of the Budget and Accounts Committee (Democratic Party, Yeongam-Muan-Shinan, Jeonnam), Mayor Choi explained the necessity of the ‘Namwon Drone Culture Experience Center Construction’ project and requested national funding support.

The drone and aviation industry is a key project of Namwon City’s 8th elected administration. Namwon City is laying the foundation to grow as a drone industry hub by hosting the FAI 2023 World Drone Racing Championship international competition this October and promoting the construction of a multipurpose drone utilization center and the Drone Culture Experience Center.

Subsequently, Mayor Choi visited the offices of Lee Won-taek (Democratic Party, Gimje City and Buan County, Jeonbuk) and Kim Seung-won (Democratic Party, Suwon City Gap, Gyeonggi), members of the Budget and Accounts Committee, to explain major projects of Namwon City and request support at the National Assembly level for securing national budget.

He also held a meeting with Kim Young-jin, chairman of the Environment and Labor Committee (Democratic Party, Suwon City Byeong), asking for cooperation to ensure smooth progress of the Namwon-Sunchang metropolitan municipal solid waste incineration facility installation project.

Key budget target projects for Namwon City include ▲Namwon Drone Culture Experience Center Construction (total project cost 25 billion KRW) ▲Ceramics Exhibition Hall Construction (15 billion KRW) ▲National Jirisan Mountain Climbing School Construction (8 billion KRW) ▲Namwon-Sunchang Metropolitan Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Facility Installation (78.3 billion KRW).

Additionally, to resolve regional pending projects, he met with Ko Young-in, floor leader of the Health and Welfare Committee (Democratic Party, Danwon-gu Gap, Ansan City, Gyeonggi), to request the passage of the National Medical School Establishment Act, a regional pending project.

He also visited Lee Yong-ho, member of the National Assembly (People Power Party, Namwon-Imsil-Sunchang, Jeonbuk), requesting cooperation for the successful promotion of Jeonbuk National University Namwon Campus establishment, including designation of the Glocal University 30 at Jeonbuk National University and regional revitalization plans through regeneration of the idle campus of Seonam University.

Mayor Choi said, “In the second half of the year, when budget deliberations are in full swing, I will frequently visit the National Assembly to explain the necessity and do my best to secure national budget for resolving Namwon City’s pending projects and promoting key projects.”
