Gwangyang City Holds Communication Session with Prospective Returning Farmers and Rural Migrants
Meeting with Participants of 'Living in the Countryside'
Administrative Support to Promote Stable Settlement
Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced that on the 3rd, a meeting was held at the Meaari Rest Area in Daap-myeon with Gwangyang Mayor Jeong In-hwa, participants of the ‘Living in the Countryside’ program, and village operators in attendance.
The meeting provided an opportunity for prospective returnees to farming and rural residents to communicate freely, listen to various voices from the field, and jointly consider solutions to the difficulties encountered during the process of relocating to rural areas.
‘Living in the Countryside’ is a project that encourages urban residents who wish to return to farming or rural living to reside in rural areas, experience jobs and daily life, and interact with residents to promote stable settlement.
Participants expressed, “Through various ‘Living in the Countryside’ programs such as farming experience, helping with farm work, and exploring local cultural heritage sites, we gained a lot of understanding about agriculture and rural life,” and shared their desire to settle and live in the countryside after returning to farming.
Additionally, participants suggested that since housing is necessary for returning farmers, the city should promote various housing policies for returnees, such as utilizing houses for returnees and vacant homes.
Meanwhile, the ‘Living in the Countryside’ program operated by Meaari Village offers participants various programs such as understanding rural life, farming experience, local exchange, and regional exploration to help them settle stably in the countryside and engage in farming after returning.
Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang emphasized, “Thorough preparation is necessary for prospective returnees to farming and rural living to settle stably,” and added, “The city will actively support solving housing issues and other matters to ensure the stable settlement of returnees.”
