A Tribute to Community Role Models: Expressing Gratitude to Volunteers
On the 4th, Jeong In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang City, Jeonnam, awarded certificates of commendation to 46 citizens who contributed to the development of city administration at the city hall's main conference room.
Before the award ceremony, to celebrate the first anniversary of the 8th elected term, Son Hye-ran, president of the Gwangyang Dongbaek Rotary Club, presented a congratulatory flower basket, saying, "Thank you for carrying out city administration centered on the citizens."
Mayor Jeong said, "These days, people are so busy with their own lives that they only take care of their parents on special days, so I am grateful to Seo Eun-ha from Goryak-dong, who sincerely cares for her elderly mother-in-law and always lives with a bright expression," and awarded the Filial Piety Award of the month.
Next, Jeon Ha-gyu of POSCO M-TEC Co., Ltd. was selected as the Volunteer of the Month.
Jeon Ha-gyu has been serving as the hands and feet for people with disabilities in cooperation with the Jungma Disabled Welfare Center, with a total of 144 volunteer activities and 613 hours recorded since 2006.
At the ceremony, the exemplary community leaders of the first half of 2023 were selected as follows: Lee Hyung-hwa, leader of Gwangyang-eup; Park Jun-soon, leader of Okryong-myeon; Woo Pyeong-ho, leader of Jinsang-myeon; and Song Jae-seung, leader of Taein-dong, who received the "Exemplary Community Leader of the Year" plaque.
Jeong In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang City, said, "Everyone present here is encouraged by the warm hands extended everywhere out of interest in the region," and added, "I sincerely thank all of you who have become role models in the local community."
Meanwhile, Gwangyang City has 343 community leaders who faithfully serve as a bridge between administration and residents.
