SKT Supports RCS to Reduce 61 Tons of Carbon Emissions in Public Institutions
SK Telecom announced on the 4th that it will expand support for RCS (Rich Communication Services) for public interest campaigns and contribute to carbon reduction in public institutions by replacing paper with RCS.
RCS is a messaging service that can deliver information in various forms such as images and website shortcut buttons. It can help public institutions reduce carbon emissions by replacing paper newsletters and magazines with electronic documents.

Since April this year, SKT has been conducting the "Public Institution RCS Public Message Sending Campaign," supporting up to 300,000 RCS messages for five public institutions including the Korean Red Cross and the Korea Fire Safety Institute. By the end of June, it supported RCS message sending for these five public institutions, contributing to a carbon reduction of about 61 tons, and aims to achieve a cumulative carbon reduction of over 100 tons by the end of the year.
The RCS messages supported by SKT are also helping to activate public institution campaigns. For example, the number of visitors to the Korea Fire Safety Institute’s YouTube video "Understanding Residential Fire Safety Equipment" increased 12-fold on the day the RCS was sent, and the Korean Red Cross saw about a 23% increase in blood donations during the RCS sending period. Additionally, the National Health Insurance Service experienced a 30-fold increase in blog visits to the "Introduction to the Health Insurance System" on the day the RCS was sent.
The RCS messages supported by SKT for public institutions utilize the "RCS Image Template" newly launched by the three major carriers in January. There are six types of RCS image templates: image and title emphasis type, image emphasis type, thumbnail type (horizontal), thumbnail type (vertical), SNS type, and SNS type (middle button). In particular, corporate customers can increase message reliability by registering their brand in the RCS Biz Center, allowing messages to display the brand instead of the sender number.
SKT plans to take the lead in delivering public interest values by expanding the RCS public message sending campaign to include the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, Korea Expressway Corporation, and Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service by the end of the year.
