2 Cases Referred to Police Investigation, 10 Requests for Fair Trade Commission Investigation
The Ministry of Education will request a police investigation into an inappropriate remark made by a CSAT instructor who claimed to have met with CSAT examiners.
On the 3rd at 2 p.m., the Ministry of Education held the 2nd Intergovernmental Response Council on Private Education Cartels and Corruption, chaired by Vice Minister Jang Sang-yoon at the Government Sejong Complex.

View original imageAt the meeting, related agencies including the Fair Trade Commission, National Police Agency, metropolitan and provincial offices of education, and the Korea Internet Monitoring Foundation participated to discuss the status of reports to the Private Education Cartel and Corruption Reporting Center, major reported cases, inter-agency cooperation matters, and future response plans.
Since the center was established on the 22nd, a total of 261 reports have been received. The Ministry of Education has been conducting fact verification, legal reviews, consultations with related ministries, and joint inspections regarding the reported cases.
The Ministry of Education will request a police investigation into two cases suspected of collusion between private education and the CSAT examination system among the cases that have been reviewed.
Additionally, for ten cases suspected of provoking anxiety among students or parents and exaggerating admissions results in promotions?such as large private academies specializing in entrance exams and publishers promoting that CSAT examiners participated in textbook writing?the Ministry plans to request an investigation by the Fair Trade Commission.
Furthermore, among other cases currently under review, if criminal suspicion arises, the Ministry intends to request investigations by the National Police Agency, and for entrance exam academies suspected of violating the Act on Labeling and Advertising, investigations will be requested from the Fair Trade Commission.

Moreover, reports related to violations such as failure to post tuition fees and exceeding the number of students in classrooms will be forwarded to the respective metropolitan and provincial offices of education for guidance and inspection. For major cases, strict measures will be taken through joint inspections by the Ministry of Education and the metropolitan and provincial offices of education.
