Yangcheon-gu Removes Street Flowerbeds to Create Parking Lot
Reflecting On-Site Opinions Proposed at the New Year's Meeting, Sidewalk Flowerbeds Removed and New Parking Spaces Created on the Walkable Street
11 On-Street Parking Spaces to be Operated as Resident-Only Parking, Direct Application to the Facilities Management Corporation from July 3 to 14
Shared Parking Spaces to be Used During Weekday Daytime to Alleviate Parking Shortage
Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gijae) announced that to resolve the parking shortage in the densely populated residential area of Sinwol 1-dong, Gomdallaero 5-gil, it has fully reorganized the existing Walkable Street section, a long-standing local project, and created 11 on-street parking spaces.
This is the result of proactive administration reflecting on-site opinions proposed at the Sinwol 1-dong New Year's work report meeting last January, requesting the removal of flowerbeds in the Walkable Street area to secure parking spaces for improving the residential environment.
The Gomdallaero 5-gil area in Sinwol 1-dong had high parking demand not only from residences but also from commercial users, but flowerbeds that had lost their function were installed, causing chronic parking space shortages and continuous illegal parking complaints.
Especially on weekends, illegal roadside parking to avoid the flowerbeds was rampant, causing numerous traffic accidents and inconveniencing residents.
Accordingly, the district conducted a joint signature campaign centered on Sinwol 1-dong civic groups regarding the creation of on-street parking lots, and reflecting the overwhelming support of 1,558 signatures, it has been promoting the on-street parking lot creation project on a 140m section of Gomdallaero 5-gil in Sinwol 1-dong from January to June.
The district fully removed the Walkable Street flowerbeds, newly created 11 on-street parking spaces, and secured pedestrian space around the residential area. Additionally, to ensure smooth drainage during the rainy season, new rainwater inlets were installed along the road sides. The removed flowerbed trees were transplanted to nearby parks and landscaping areas to increase their utilization.
From August, the district plans to operate the newly created 11 on-street parking spaces as resident-priority parking lots for residents, and to use them as shared parking spaces during weekday daytime hours. Residents wishing to apply for resident-priority parking can submit applications in person, by fax, or email to the Yangcheon-gu Facilities Management Corporation from July 3 to July 14. The corporation will notify applicants individually of the final selection results in July based on allocation criteria.
Furthermore, the district plans to sequentially create additional parking lots, such as the Sinjeong 4-dong Cherry Blossom Road Public Parking Lot, to resolve the insufficient parking supply issue.
