Rickie Fowler (USA) broke his ‘win drought’.
On the 2nd (local time), at the final 4th round of the PGA Tour Rocket Mortgage Classic (total prize money $8.8 million) held at Detroit Golf Club (Par 72, 7,370 yards) in Michigan, USA, he shot 4-under par to tie with Adam Hadwin (Canada) and Collin Morikawa (USA) at 24-under par 264. Then, on the first hole of the playoff resumed at the 18th hole (Par 4), he made the ‘winning birdie.’ This was his 6th career victory, his first in 4 years and 5 months since the Phoenix Open in February 2019, with a winner’s prize of $1,584,000 (approximately 2.1 billion KRW).

Fowler started with a one-stroke lead and collected four birdies. He gained momentum by making three birdies on holes 3, 5, and 7, but failed to reduce his score over the next 10 holes and was overtaken. However, Fowler dramatically forced a playoff with a birdie on the 18th hole and celebrated after sinking a 3.4-meter ‘winning birdie’ on the first playoff hole.
Fowler is the player who led PGA Tour trends with his flashy orange-colored outfit and hip-hop style cap. He rose to as high as 4th in the world rankings in 2016 but fell into a severe slump, dropping outside the top 100 last year. His current world ranking is 35th. This year, after recording three ‘top 10’ finishes in his last four tournaments, he finally collected a winner’s trophy.
