'2nd Cement Day' Ceremony
Han In-ho, CEO, Receives Prime Minister's Commendation
The cement industry gathered in one place to commend contributions to industrial development and pledged change and innovation for carbon reduction.
The Korea Cement Association held the '2nd Cement Day' ceremony last month on the 30th at the Federation of Korean Industries Conference Center in Yeouido, Seoul.
About 200 people attended the event, including industry representatives and executives, Lee Cheol-gyu and Yoo Sang-beom from the People Power Party, Yang Ki-wook, Director of Industrial Supply Chain Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and Bae Jo-ung, Chairman of the Korea Ready-Mixed Concrete Industry Cooperative Federation.
Cement Day was established and commemorated on July 1, the founding date of the association, to remember the cement industry’s contribution to national development as a key industry and to enhance the pride of its employees.
Following the joint reading of the Cement Day declaration, industry representatives signed the declaration. Congratulatory speeches were given by lawmakers Lee Cheol-gyu and Yoo Sang-beom, and Ian, President of the World Cement Association, delivered a video message.
Lawmaker Lee said, "South Korea achieved compressed growth by producing and supplying high-quality cement at affordable prices," adding, "I hope the regional management fund created to coexist with local residents will become a new model."
Lawmaker Yoo urged, "The cement industry should take the lead in solving environmental issues such as carbon neutrality." Director Yang expressed gratitude to the industry for efforts to stabilize cement supply and demand in the first half of the year, stating, "We have supported 280 billion KRW for carbon-neutral technology development and plan to expand this support further."
The government also awarded commendations to those who contributed to the development of the cement industry.
Han In-ho, CEO of Sungshin Cement, received the Prime Minister’s Commendation, while eight others, including Executive Director Kang Sang-gu (Sampyo Cement), were awarded the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Commendation. Additionally, commendations from the Korea Cement Association President, the Korea Concrete Society President, and the Korea Ceramic Society President followed.
In his commemorative speech, Lee Hyun-jun, President of the Korea Cement Association, said, "Despite difficult management conditions, large-scale investments continue to improve the environment and expand recycling of circular resources, alongside various efforts to fulfill corporate social responsibility."
He added, "We must reduce an additional 18 million tons of greenhouse gases, including 4 million tons by 2030 and 14 million tons by 2050. Considering the high proportion of process emissions in the cement industry, this is a very challenging goal."
