Handok Continuing Sustainable Management, Joins UN Global Compact
Handok announced on the 30th that it has joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) as part of its sustainable management efforts.
The UNGC is the world's largest voluntary corporate citizenship initiative launched by the United Nations, with over 20,000 companies from more than 160 countries participating. It encourages companies to internalize the 10 principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption into their operations and management strategies to promote sustainability and enhance corporate citizenship awareness.
Handok has long internalized and continuously practiced sustainable management, and was recognized for this by receiving the highest score among domestic listed companies in the ESG evaluation conducted by the Sustainable Development Center in 2020. Handok's sustainable management is based on transparent and ethical management that creates a healthy governance structure, win-win management that fosters a healthy society, and eco-friendly practices that build a healthy environment. Ethical management and transparent management are embedded in the company's core values and management philosophy, and are practiced throughout corporate culture, work processes, and communication.
In 1964, Handok established Korea's first corporate museum and specialized museum, the Handok Pharmaceutical Museum, in Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk, where its production plant is located. The museum collects, preserves, and exhibits pharmaceutical artifacts and cooperates in industrial tourism activities to revitalize the local community. Additionally, Handok declared eco-friendly management in 1997 and was designated as a green company, the first in the pharmaceutical industry, in 2000, maintaining the longest certification period. Recently, centered on the board of directors and leadership team, Handok has established an ESG governance system with a sustainable management team, a practical task force team (TFT), and a dedicated organization to further specify and implement sustainable management.
