Gumi Urikkot Sarang Research Group Talent Donation, Healing Agriculture with Elderly Living Alone
July 13 Exhibition Expected to Boost Seniors' Sense of Achievement
On the 28th, Gumi City in Gyeongbuk conducted a healing agriculture program with the participation of 20 elderly people living alone from vulnerable groups, through the talent donation of members of the Woori Flower Love Research Association.
Healing agriculture refers to activities and industries that promote physical, emotional, and cognitive health by utilizing rural resources or related activities. By caring for living plants, psychological effects such as a sense of ownership from "what I have cultivated," "respect for life," and "increased self-esteem" occur.
This healing agriculture program was conducted by having the elderly living alone transplant pink Baekhwa-deung cuttings, propagated at the Agricultural Technology Center, into pots crafted by members of the Woori Flower Love Research Association.
It is expected that the elderly will directly nurture and bloom the flowers, and then hold an exhibition of their works to enhance their sense of accomplishment and self-esteem.
The exhibition of works will be held on the first floor of the Saemaul Theme Park Exhibition Hall on the 13th of next month, showcasing pink Baekhwa-deung works as well as various pieces such as calligraphy, fabric art, and knitting.
Additionally, from August 8th for four days, bonsai hibiscus works cultivated directly by the Woori Flower Love Research Association members over two years will be exhibited in the lobby on the first floor of the Saemaul Theme Park Exhibition Hall.
