A hackathon is a compound word of hacking and marathon, meaning continuously generating ideas and completing final outcomes within a limited time, like running a marathon.
The hackathon competition will take place on July 22-23 from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM at the ECC Theater within Ewha Womans University Ewha Campus Complex. The participants are 100 local elementary (grades 5-6) and middle school students (grades 1-3).
The theme is ‘Our Own Robot Design for a Green Earth,’ and the students will be divided into 10 groups of elementary and middle school students.
The students will use Spike Prime to build robots and conduct group projects exploring solutions to climate change. After completing their robots, each group will present their projects, and the top 3 teams will be awarded.
On the first day of the competition, Professor Jang Ji-young from Hansung University will give a special lecture titled ‘The Future AI Robot World We Create,’ enriching the event.
Students wishing to participate can pre-register by July 7 on the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office website under Integrated Reservation → Lifelong Education → Convergence Talent Education page. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and the participation fee is 10,000 KRW.
Additionally, to expand participation among socially disadvantaged groups such as low-income families, persons with disabilities, and multicultural students, recommendations from school principals and heads of local children’s centers are accepted. Participation fees are waived for socially disadvantaged participants.
For inquiries, contact the Future Education Division or the Convergence Talent Education Center for detailed information.
