Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok), which is actively working to attract the Korea National University of Arts (KNUA), successfully held the ‘Korea National University of Arts Concert with Songpa Residents’ on the 29th at the Seokchon Lake Atelier, once again publicly expressing its strong desire for the university’s relocation.
The district has selected the area of 445-11 Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu, as the prospective campus site for KNUA and is making multifaceted efforts in cooperation with residents to ensure the successful attraction of the university.
These efforts include the formation of a pan-resident attraction promotion committee, and last September, the hosting of the “KNUA Special Arts Exhibition,” which featured a film screening by a director who graduated from KNUA and vocal performances by alumni.
This concert, subtitled ‘Wishing for KNUA’s Relocation to Songpa-gu,’ was filled with high-quality traditional arts performances by KNUA graduates. It was organized to convey the residents’ strong desire for the university’s relocation and to publicize the benefits of moving to Songpa-gu.
The performances included ▲‘the Sero’ team, which combined traditional music played with Korean instruments such as gayageum and ajaeng with storytelling ▲the lively traditional performance by the ‘Yein Jipdan Arahan’ team ▲and the dazzling Jindo drum dance by the ‘Migyo D Arts’ team, all of which received enthusiastic cheers and applause from the residents.
In particular, KNUA students delivered messages expressing their hope for the relocation to Songpa-gu, supporting the attraction efforts. The students stated, “In a recent survey, 93.2% of the school community supported relocating the campus within Seoul, with a strong preference for moving to Songpa, Seoul, where Korea’s arts infrastructure is concentrated.”
Following this, members of the pan-resident KNUA attraction promotion committee and attendees performed a card section performance filled with wishes for the relocation, demonstrating the residents’ passionate support for KNUA’s move to Songpa-gu.

Mayor Seo Gang-seok said, “The relocation of KNUA to Songpa-gu will not only enhance its potential to grow as a world-class arts university but also lead to efficient development of the Bangi-dong area, boosting national competitiveness beyond Seoul.” He added, “We hope that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which holds the authority to decide on the relocation, will actively consider Songpa-gu as the planned site and make a swift decision.”
