View original imageWith a total project cost of 8 billion KRW funded by the Ministry of Environment's private capital subsidy project, the city is constructing a commercial hydrogen charging station in Jangheung-dong, Nam-gu, aiming for completion in October.
This is a large-capacity commercial hydrogen charging station in Nam-gu capable of charging up to 150 hydrogen buses per day. The city expects the station to serve as a catalyst for expanding the distribution of commercial hydrogen vehicles once completed.
Additionally, in the Yeongilman 4 General Industrial Complex, the city plans to invest a total of 12.8 billion KRW by 2025 to build a multi-purpose complex facility equipped with liquefied hydrogen charging infrastructure, ultra-fast electric vehicle charging stations, and auxiliary facilities.
This project was selected through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's public contest for establishing a hydrogen transportation complex base linked to the relocation of the northern public parking lot. The plan includes investment review, permit examination, and design in 2023, followed by permits, equipment and facility orders, and construction in 2024, with the hydrogen charging facility expected to undergo completion inspection and begin full operation in 2025.
So far, the hydrogen transportation complex base construction project is being promoted by eight local governments nationwide, including Pyeongtaek, Ansan, Chuncheon, and Tongyeong.
Alongside this, Pohang City continues to support the distribution of hydrogen vehicles.
In May, Pohang City, along with 12 local governments, 7 transportation companies, and 7 enterprises, signed the 'ESG Leading Companies Hydrogen Commuter Bus Conversion Business Agreement' to convert internal combustion engine commuter buses to hydrogen buses through ongoing cooperation and exchange.
The local governments pledged to secure purchase subsidies and ensure timely execution so that ESG leading companies can swiftly transition to hydrogen buses, and to cooperate in the rapid expansion of hydrogen charging stations.
Accordingly, Pohang City plans to invest 7.76 billion KRW, including national funds, in the second half of this year to support purchase subsidies for 45 hydrogen passenger cars and 18 hydrogen commuter buses, aiming to promote the transition and distribution of hydrogen vehicles.
Currently, 35 hydrogen passenger cars are registered and operating in Pohang City. Once the hydrogen charging station in Jangheung-dong is completed this year, the expanded infrastructure for hydrogen vehicle charging is expected to greatly alleviate inconveniences for hydrogen vehicle users.
