Former Hampyeong County Governor Lee Seok-hyung Receives '2023 Proud Korean Award'
Recognition of Efforts to Strengthen Local Autonomy and Develop Ecotourism Culture
Former Hampyeong County Governor Lee Seok-hyung, who has stood out with relentless creativity and unconventional thinking in various fields, has been selected as the recipient of the '2023 Proud Korean Award.'
Lee Seok-hyung's consistent efforts to develop ecotourism culture, integrate agriculture and culture, and strengthen local autonomy have greatly contributed to improving citizens' quality of life as well as the development of the local community and economy. He is credited with elevating Hampyeong County to become the 'nation's leading local autonomous city.'
His creativity was well demonstrated in the creation of the 'Butterfly Festival,' regarded as the standard model of festivals in Korea, and the globally acclaimed pure gold 'Golden Bat.'
Additionally, during his tenure as the Chairman of the Korea Forest Cooperatives Federation, Lee led efforts to revise funeral laws to promote 'tree burials' and proactively introduced and popularized park golf among cooperative members, contributing to the preservation of green forests and woodlands.
This award recognizes former Hampyeong County Governor Lee Seok-hyung's dedication, unwavering affection, and commitment to Korea, agriculture, rural communities, farmers, and forests, marking him as a 'Proud Korean.'
Lee Seok-hyung expressed his promise to "continue the journey toward good governance worthy of the Proud Korean Award," conveyed deep condolences for the loss of life caused by recent heavy rains, and urged special attention to the safety of local residents.

He served as the chairman of the 'Yeomin Donghaeng Committee' in the Democratic Party's presidential campaign during the last presidential election and is currently co-executive director of the Democratic Reform National Action Movement Headquarters. He is preparing to run as the Democratic Party candidate for the Damyang-Hampyeong-Yeonggwang-Jangseong constituency in next year's National Assembly election.
