"Focusing on Low-Cost TV Models"… Samsung's 2Q Shipments Plummet
TrendForce Reports Sharp Decline in Market-Leading Samsung TV Shipments
Due to inflation suppressing TV demand and continued concentration on low-priced models, Samsung Electronics' TV shipments in the second quarter sharply declined, according to an analysis.
On the 28th, market research firm TrendForce reported that global TV shipments in the second quarter of this year reached 46.627 million units, a 2% increase compared to the same period last year. It estimated a 7.5% increase compared to the first quarter of this year. It analyzed that during China's major shopping event, the '6·18 Shopping Festival,' Chinese brands' global TV sales significantly exceeded expectations.
In the peak season of the third quarter, TV shipments are expected to expand by 13.5% from the second quarter to 52.92 million units, then slow down to a 4.5% growth rate in the fourth quarter due to inventory adjustments, reaching about 55.13 million units. TrendForce diagnosed that consumers' TV demand is suppressed by high inflation, and most consumers are still focusing on low-priced models.
In fact, the second-quarter TV shipments by brand compiled by TrendForce highlighted the strong performance of Chinese companies, which focus on low-priced models.
Samsung Electronics, the industry leader, recorded TV shipments of 8 million units in the second quarter, down 4.8% year-on-year and 13.0% quarter-on-quarter. LG Electronics also saw its TV shipments estimated at 4.99 million units, down 6.7% year-on-year and 12.3% quarter-on-quarter. LG Electronics, which was ranked second worldwide by shipment volume until last year, has continued to fall in ranking and was placed fourth as of the second quarter this year.
