Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will hold the ‘Mullae Stage Festival’ for three days from June 30 to July 2 across Mullae-dong.
The Mullae Stage Festival is a celebration that transforms the entire Mullae-dong, the nation’s largest artist-concentrated area and a representative cultural street in the region, into a stage, presenting street performances that can be encountered anywhere in daily life.
The festival consists of three parts: the ‘Park Stage’ at Mullae Neighborhood Park offering the largest-scale street performances including classical, jazz, acoustic, and traditional Korean music (gugak); the ‘Street Stage’ featuring intimate busking performances in the alleys of Mullae Creative Village; and the ‘Mullae Stage’ showcasing various genres of performances at cultural spaces located throughout Mullae-dong.
All performances are free to watch, and detailed times and locations for each stage can be found on the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office website under Our District News.
Every year, the district has held ‘Youth Street’ performances in busy areas with high foot traffic such as Times Square Plaza. This year, the festival expands on previous performances by offering distinctive street performances across Mullae-dong that consider diverse age groups.
Prior to the festival, the district held an open call for artists to participate in May. A total of 29 teams, including 11 teams selected through a competitive process with an 11:1 ratio, will present unique performances.
The district expects the Mullae Stage Festival to contribute to expanding platforms for local artists, increasing opportunities for residents to enjoy cultural arts, and revitalizing the local economy.
