Munin, Mayor of Buk-gu, Marks One Year of the 8th Elected Term: "I Will Complete a Happy Buk-gu"
"Using the first year of the 8th elected term as a steering wheel, we will complete a happy Buk-gu through on-site communication administration, the unwavering policy direction of Buk-gu, over the remaining three years."
Moon In, Mayor of Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, on the first anniversary of the 8th elected term, pledged to transform the district into the safest and most dignified city in the nation based on major achievements in disaster safety, livelihood economy, inclusive welfare, eco-friendly policies, youth policies, and living SOC.
Mayor Moon said, "We opened the era of a 1 trillion won budget for four consecutive years for the first time among autonomous districts in Gwangju, and we are overcoming poor financial conditions by reinvesting about 228 billion won in prize money secured through 556 awards, the highest level ever, into residents' welfare."
In particular, Mayor Moon explained that Buk-gu has achieved innovative growth, being selected as the No. 1 local government nationwide in the '2022 Local Government Innovation Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
Mayor Moon continued by naming 'Establishing a Permanent Safe City' as this year's priority project, stating, "I approved the first document of this year to establish a mid- to long-term roadmap for Buk-gu-style disaster prevention," and added, "We plan to invest 62.4 billion won, secured through three consecutive years of selection in Ministry of the Interior and Safety public contests since 2021, to install excellent detention facilities around Munheung-dong Catholic Church, Buk-gu Office Intersection, and Sinan Bridge."
Regarding the revitalization of the livelihood economy, he presented various achievements and several plans. Mayor Moon said, "For the first time among autonomous districts in Gwangju, we established a national-level 'Economic Field Support Group' and unified support tasks for small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners to provide comprehensive and professional support measures."
He also revealed, "Through the operation of the 'Gwangju Convergence Trade Promotion Team' via the Philippines and Vietnam in April, we achieved 115 export consultations worth 18.3 million dollars and concluded four on-site contracts worth 1.7 million dollars. In the second half of the year, we plan to visit Vietnam, Laos, and other countries to hold export consultation meetings for manufacturing sectors such as beauty and cosmetics."
Furthermore, he said, "We will do our best to strengthen the self-sustainability of local grassroots economic actors through Gwangju's first 'Small Business Card Fee Support,' 'Live Commerce' via the Livelihood Economy Recovery Win-Win Fund, and 'Small Business Hope Dream Inclusive Finance Support.'"
Buk-gu's inclusive welfare policies also stand out.
Mayor Moon stated, "We identify and support families in crisis in cooperation with 'life-close institutions and businesses,' and comfort low-income seniors by holding events such as the 'Angel Free Meal Center,' 'Love Meal Truck,' and 'Hyo Love Concert.' We will build a dense welfare network through various policies implemented for the first time nationwide and in Gwangju autonomous districts, such as the 'One-Person Household Jeonse and Monthly Rent Safe Transaction Counseling Center,' 'Legal Support for Children and Youth in Inheritance Debt Crisis,' and 'Support for Youth Scar and Tattoo Removal.'"
Mayor Moon added, "We are promoting the registration of Pyeongdume Wetland in the district and the Mudeungsan National Park Office as Ramsar Wetlands, and will continuously implement eco-friendly policies for ecological resource conservation and carbon neutrality, such as green remodeling of permanent rental apartments and public buildings, and support for renewable energy convergence."
