Mayor Kim Kyung-ho Promises, “I Will Communicate More Sincerely, Learn, and Implement Policies That Resonate with Residents”
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) announced the top 10 news items selected by residents to mark the first anniversary of the 8th elected mayoral term.
From the 20 major projects pursued over the past year, which underwent internal review, the district selected the 10 projects that received the most votes during a nine-day online survey held from the 1st to the 9th.
Each participant selected five projects, and the ranking was determined by the number of votes received. The survey was conducted through the Gwangjin-gu website, with 1,420 residents participating and a total of 6,540 votes counted.
The first place was awarded to the “Installation of a U-turn lane at Gunja Station intersection and 1.5 times expansion of the commercial area around Gunja Station.” This project received high marks for resolving long-standing local issues through continuous communication and cooperation.
The second place went to “Gwangjin-gu reborn through communication! Communication and field-centered district administration.” The district regards voices from the field as the most valuable foundation for district administration. Over the past year, various communication methods such as alleyway communication, direct text messages from the mayor, Mayor’s Meeting Days, and communication in front of schools were actively implemented, earning strong resonance from residents.
Attention was also focused on the rise in Gwangjin-gu’s integrity level. The third place, “Achieving Grade 2 in Public Institution Integrity,” is a valuable achievement after 12 years. This result reflects the positive progress of the district’s fair, communicative, and kind policy direction under the 8th elected mayoral term, along with proper and transparent management.
Next was the “Reorganization of long-term non-operating street vendors at Riverside Station and Konkuk University Station through dialogue and communication.” Since August last year, a full survey of street vendors in the area was conducted, and through dozens of meetings and persuasion processes with vendors needing reorganization, a consensus was reached without conflict. So far, a total of 15 locations, including 9 around Riverside Station and 3 near Konkuk University Station, have been reorganized, accelerating the creation of a pleasant and safe pedestrian environment.
Following were ▲5th place, expanded support for welfare of the disabled (support for insurance enrollment for electric mobility aids, operation of Hope Career Lounge, etc.) ▲6th place, close support for vulnerable households! Project embracing 200 households ▲7th place, expanded postpartum care support for pregnant women (90% support for out-of-pocket expenses, up to 1 million KRW) ▲8th place, significant expansion of coverage for Gwangjin-gu residents’ life safety insurance (up to 1 million KRW for injury medical expenses, newly established up to 10 million KRW for injury death and disability) ▲9th place, operation of Gwangjin-gu Single-Person Household Support Center ▲10th place, rapid civil complaint resolution centered on neighborhoods ‘Promotion of Neighborhood Responsibility System’.
Additionally, residents showed high expectations for regional development such as reconstruction and redevelopment. The selection of Jayang 4-dong as a candidate site for rapid integrated planning in December last year served as a signal for supplying quality housing and improving residential environments in the aging low-rise residential area, demonstrating a model of regional coexistence.
The district also selected the top 10 news chosen by employees. Installation of the U-turn lane at Gunja Station, achieving Grade 2 in integrity, and street vendor reorganization received strong agreement, similar to the policies selected by residents.
Along with these, ▲Creation of a temporary public parking lot on the KEPCO site in Junggok-dong ▲Operation of sports programs for youth and office workers ▲Expansion of support for language and certification exam fees were included in the rankings.
